Sweetpeas Restaurant Review

Early one Saturday morning it was raining while I drove to Tahoe. It seemed like the weather on the slopes would be similarly poor so I decided I didn't need a full day and instead could afford to have a sit-down breakfast. I ended up in Auburn at a homey diner called Sweetpeas (picture).

When I saw homey, I mean it. It seemed to be filled with locals; many of the waitstaff and clients seemed to know each other. Some gossiped about parties from the previous week.

The menu also indicates diner. While there is a whole section of sandwiches, most of my attention was focused on the breakfast (served all day). They have all the usual items: pancakes, waffles, eggs in various forms etc., including a large selection of "omelets." I put the omelets in quotes because they were shaped like burritos! (picture) I don't know how they cooked it, but they managed to get eggs cooked into the shape of a burrito and filled with omelet fillings. Actually, I believe the side of the omelet on the plate didn't have eggs, so the omelet really was pile of fillings covered with eggs shaped into what looks like a burrito. (Thus, it was different from a normal omelet in both shape and mixing strategy -- normal omelets have the ingredients mixed with the eggs.)

My ten dollars got me the aforementioned massive omelet, two slices of toast (many types; I chose rye, which makes better toast than I would've thought), and a choice of a side (many types including fruit, muffins, and various potato products; I choose hash browns and got a tasty lightly fried mess of shredded potatoes the size of half a plate). In total, a large pile of food that kept me full for most of the day.

Original Announcement

Since this was a destination I chose while on the way to Tahoe, there was no original announcement.
