Naked Fish Sushi Review

One Saturday evening in South Lake Tahoe I had to dine alone. After a bit of research, I ended up at Naked Fish, a sushi place on highway 50 not far from The Brewery (a pizza and beer place that I'm fond of). Naked Fish was a popular place and the two sushi chefs were both characters -- one a hispanic, and one a white tattooed mountain biker. (I sat at the bar and the white one was my chef.)

I ordered the sushi dinner ($20), an ample plate of six pieces of nigiri (larger than at most sushi places), six tuna rolls, and six California (crab and avocado) rolls. All the sushi was quite good except for one piece of nigiri, which was merely okay and one piece (which I believe was halibut) that was exquisite. But perhaps the neatest feature of the place was that one can order fresh wasabi ($1). I did. And it's quite a difference from the regular wasabi one gets served everywhere. The fresh wasabi is simply more vibrant. Comparing them side by side, the fresh was slightly brighter in color and in taste. It just seemed more pure. A smaller taste was simply more potent, with a bit more of a horseradish kick that goes straight to the sinuses.

Original Announcement

Since this was a destination I chose while at Tahoe, there was no original announcement.
