Morning Glory Review

Morning Glory ( http://www.morninggloryrestaurant.com/ ) served us okay brunch food in a quirky atmosphere, mostly stemming from the paintings on the walls (photographs: one, two). Di Yin writes, "the atmosphere in the restaurant was warm, happy, but with a focus on fast, efficient service given the long line of weekend brunch clientele."

I can only report on what I tried and what people directly told me.

My Mediterranean omelet made me happy enough but I wouldn't endorse it. As evidence, it's been less than a week since I ordered it and I'm having trouble remembering what it contained. Perhaps: eggplant, zucchini, onions, ... ?

The omelet special of day included bacon and asparagus (photograph). It was fine but bacon-dominated and, like some other items, not worth an endorsement.

The poached eggs with a sweet tomato chutney was reported to be too sweet for Di Yin, but another attendee was more than satisfied with it. Di Yin gave nearly all of it to her.

The person who ordered salmon scrambled eggs with hash browns mixed it all together, but the dish was reported to be bland.

The hash browns, simply fried shredded potatoes, were good and not greasy yet didn't excite us.

One person really enjoyed the fried polenta side but most others did not, complaining it was much like all the other polenta they don't like.

The corned beef hash I got the opportunity to try was quite good, and perhaps the only item I'd be happy to endorse of the ones I tried. Di Yin and the orderer herself both have similarly high regard for this dish.

My glass of orange juice was clearly freshly squeezed, and that is good.

All the dishes were served with a sprig of dill: a nice touch.

Our waitress had an odd attitude. When asked about the grapefruit, she asked, do you like grapefruit, as if she couldn't believe someone would. A question about polenta got a similar response. This amused O.

Original Announcement

There was no original announcement. As part of organizing a trip to Oregon's Shakespeare Festival, I did much research via chowhound and other web sites on good restaurants in Ashland.

Morning Glory was a brunch place that came highly recommended. Unintentionally but amazingly conveniently, it was next door to our hotel. Hence Sunday morning we put our names on the list (one hour wait), and mosied over there at the appropriate time.
